Rashawn Griffin

Los Angeles, 1980

Lives and works in N.Y. After graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from MICA, he was accepted to the Master of Fine Arts degree at Yale University in New Haven. He soon appeared as one of the promising young American artists and in 2006 was identified as one of the ten most promising emerging artists under the age of 26 by Kelly Crow.

In 2007 he received the award from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and in 2008 was selected for the Biennial by the Whitney Museum. He has held the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Queens and the Central Utah Art Center. He uses a vast range of techniques and materials in compositions characterized by great formal rigor and delicate elegance.
