Ulrich Egger started out as a sculptor. His art consists of assembling fragments of interiors, such as doors or windows and gelid images of buildings and devastated and disowned environments. “Corroded, worn surfaces scarred by the passage of time and exposure to the elements, they have an almost material texture, sometimes with chromatic counterpoints, like the small, lone green lawns amidst the chaos of the roofs of Istanbul, or the window casings of the alienated facades of the buildings of Naples.” Silence and the absence of humans rule Egger’s work, which investigates, with deep moral and artistic involvement, the decay and ruin of places which were once active and are now abandoned.
