Designed by Ron Gilad, Revolving Arches is a massive dual-curve portal extracted from a single block of Carrara marble. As a door that will not close, each door reflects in the other, deceiving its natural function – perhaps because doors should be made to open rather than to close. In fact, Gilad’s door recalls Janus, the god of doors and passages and lord of time, with his face simultaneously turned to the past and to the future: an enigmatic “continuum” that is expressed by the curving lines of marble that revolve with the flow of time and life.
