Lucas Blalock is one of the champions, together with his friend Chris Wiley (also exhibiting), of New Photography, recently celebrated in a large exhibition held at MoMA. He lives in Brooklyn and Los Angeles. His photographs are digitally elaborated, producing extraordinary effects. However, this is not his only secret. In a studio which resembles the cave of a modern wizard he composes and cuts, creates and transforms his subjects, his still lifes, his strange portraits, sticking within the conventions of a technical medium whose limits and contradictions he explores, producing results which we might call neo-pictorial as they push the boundaries of both painting and photography.
