Perhaps one of the best-known American artists working with large installations that invade the surrounding environment, Jessica Stockholder exhibits four works – which one could define as “chamber pieces” – on the great staircase of Palazzo Farnese. The oldest (1994) and most important of these works forms part of the series titled Kissing the Wall, which started to take form in 1988 and would make the artist famous. The wall becomes a screen that is touched or “kissed” by various objects in what Jessica calls “an event full of emotional charge”, while the same found objects, once assembled, become the protagonists of a spatial and chromatic drama.
